Description

A delightful twist on traditional biscuits, these Apple Pie Biscuits combine a flaky, buttery texture with the warm, spiced flavors of apple pie. Perfect for breakfast or an indulgent snack, they bring a touch of autumn to any time of the year.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped apples (peeled if desired)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  • Cut the dough into 8 equal biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar, a splash of milk, and a pinch of cinnamon.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can substitute part of the apples with pears.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar and spices based on the sweetness and tartness of your apples.
  • Serve warm for the best texture and taste.
