- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sugar together, stirring constantly.
- Add salt and continue stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them sit for 2 minutes until melted. Spread evenly with a spatula.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.
- Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or in the fridge until set.
- Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
- Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
- Be careful while cooking—the toffee mixture is extremely hot!
