Description

This homemade toffee is rich, buttery, and topped with creamy chocolate and crunchy nuts, making it the perfect treat for the holidays or special occasions. It has a delightful balance of sweet, crunchy, and melt-in-your-mouth goodness—better than anything store-bought!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sugar together, stirring constantly.
  • Add salt and continue stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer (hard crack stage).
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the hot toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them sit for 2 minutes until melted. Spread evenly with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.
  • Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or in the fridge until set.
  • Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  • Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • Be careful while cooking—the toffee mixture is extremely hot!
