Ingredients

Units Scale

Crust:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup crushed chocolate cereal (e.g., Cocoa Pebbles or Cocoa Krispies)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:

  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate cereal

Others:

  • 2 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • Candy sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare the Crust:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with foil, extending the edges over the sides for easy removal, and lightly grease the foil.
    • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, crushed chocolate cereal, brown sugar, and baking powder. Mix well.
    • Add the softened butter and vanilla, mixing until the dough comes together.
    • Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake the Crust:
    • Bake the crust for 12-15 minutes or until light golden brown.
    • Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the crust with miniature marshmallows.
    • Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 1-2 minutes, just until the marshmallows begin to puff.
  • Prepare the Topping:
    • In a medium saucepan, heat the light corn syrup, butter, and vanilla over medium heat, stirring until smooth.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the milk chocolate chips until melted and fully combined.
    • Gently fold in the chocolate cereal to coat evenly.
  • Assemble and Decorate:
    • Immediately spoon the warm topping over the marshmallow layer, spreading gently to cover.
    • Sprinkle candy sprinkles over the topping while it’s still warm.
    • Let the bars cool completely in the pan.
  • Cut into Hearts:
    • Once the bars have set, lift them out of the pan using the foil overhang.
    • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes.

Notes

  • For easier cutting, lightly grease the cookie cutter before use.
  • Leftover scraps can be crumbled and used as a dessert topping or snack!
