For the Mozzarella Sticks:
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut in half for smaller sticks)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Marinara Sauce:
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
For the Creamy Dip:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks
- Cut each mozzarella string cheese in half for smaller sticks.
- Place the flour in one shallow bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
- In a third bowl, mix Italian breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and Parmesan (if using).
Step 2: Coat the Mozzarella Sticks
- Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
- Dip into the egg mixture, coating evenly.
- Roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Repeat steps 2-3 for double coating (important for extra crispiness).
- Place coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
Step 3: Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Make the Marinara Sauce
- In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar.
- Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5: Make the Creamy Dip
- In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, garlic powder, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Chill until ready to serve.

- Freezing is essential to prevent cheese from melting too fast when frying.
