Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the Fudge Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Form the Batter:
    • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, then stir in the milk until just combined.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 25–30 minutes. The top should be set and slightly firm while the center remains soft and pudding-like.
  6. Prepare the Fudge Sauce:
    • While the cake bakes, heat the heavy cream, chocolate chips, butter, and a pinch of salt in a small saucepan over medium heat.
    • Stir continuously until the chocolate and butter have completely melted and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat.
  7. Serve:
    • Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes. Cut into 8 pieces and drizzle with warm fudge sauce. Enjoy on its own or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For best results, serve the cake warm so that the fudgy center is delightfully gooey.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of chocolate chips in the sauce for an extra-rich topping.

This cake is best enjoyed fresh; leftovers can be reheated in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
