Description

This indulgent Hot Fudge Chocolate Pudding Cake is a magical dessert! A rich chocolate cake forms on top while a gooey fudge sauce creates itself underneath as it bakes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate treat.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or plain flour)

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder*

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Fudge Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened recommended)

  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan. Pre-boil water in a kettle while preparing the cake.

  • Prepare the Cake Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

    • Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and fairly lump-free.

    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

  • Prepare the Fudge Sauce:

    • In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining 1/2 cup white sugar, brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons cocoa powder.

    • Evenly sprinkle this mixture over the cake batter.

    • Slowly pour the boiling water over the top. Do not stir or mix into the batter. Allow the water to sit on top.

  • Bake:

    • Bake for 35 minutes, or until the center is almost set.

    • Remove from the oven and let cool for 15 minutes.

  • Serve:

    • Serve in dessert dishes with ice cream or whipped cream. Spoon the fudge sauce from the bottom of the pan over each serving of cake.

    •

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.

  • For a richer sauce, add 1/4 cup of chocolate chips to the sugar mixture before sprinkling it over the batter.

  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave before serving.
