Description

These Italian-style sautéed mushrooms are rich, garlicky, and packed with flavor. Perfect as a side dish or topping for meats, pasta, or toasted bread, they bring a taste of Italy to your table in minutes!

Ingredients

– 2 tbsp olive oil

– 2 tbsp unsalted butter

– 1 lb (450g) cremini or white mushrooms, sliced

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– ½ tsp salt

– ¼ tsp black pepper

– ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

– 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

– 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried thyme)

– 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)

– ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

2. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until they start to release their moisture.

3. Stir in the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).

4. Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are tender and golden brown.

5. Add the fresh parsley, thyme, and balsamic vinegar (if using), stirring well to combine.

6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving.

7. Serve warm as a side dish or topping for pasta, meats, or toasted bread.

Notes

– For a deeper flavor, use a mix of mushrooms such as shiitake, cremini, or portobello.

– If using dried thyme, reduce the amount by half as dried herbs are more concentrated.

– Balsamic vinegar adds a slight sweetness; omit if you prefer a more savory taste.

– Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
