Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Sauté the diced bell pepper and onion in a skillet over medium heat until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Allow them to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined (do not overwork the meat).
- Add half of the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan and press it down evenly. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese and the sautéed vegetables. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.
- (Optional) Spread ketchup over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top and return the meatloaf to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra flavor, use a mix of provolone and mozzarella cheeses.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add some diced jalapeños to the veggie mix.
- If you don’t have breadcrumbs, crushed crackers can be a good substitute.
