Ingredients
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1 onion, chopped
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
– 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
– 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
– 1 cup beef broth
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 1 tsp dried basil
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– 1 tsp dried thyme
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp black pepper
– 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
– 1 tbsp sugar
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan, cooking for 2-3 minutes until softened.
4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
5. Add the basil, oregano, thyme, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (optional), and sugar.
6. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
Notes
– This sauce can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days, or frozen for up to 3 months.
– For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer for longer.
